Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience event

On 13 September 2024, SATCD hosted a Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience event.
Understanding the theme
Disaster risk reduction starts with a simple question: what can be done before a difficult situation becomes a crisis? It is about paying attention to risks and thinking ahead, with people’s safety, homes and livelihoods in mind.
Resilience is closely connected to that idea. It describes the ability to cope with disruption, adapt to changing circumstances and recover. Taken together, the two terms place preparation and recovery in the same conversation.
Why it matters to everyday life
The language of risk can sound distant from daily routines. Its meaning becomes clearer when we think about the things a household depends on: food, water, shelter and a way to earn a living. Protecting these essentials is what makes resilience a community concern.
This is the wider context for the story’s theme, rather than a record of specific activities or outcomes from the event. It connects with SATCD’s Climate Justice and Resilience pillar and its focus on communities facing change.
