Kitchen gardens for healthier families

Good food starts close to home. Through its Kitchen Garden Programme, SATCD supported families with certified seeds, gunny bags and other farm inputs to grow nutritious food where they live.
Making room for food at home
A kitchen garden brings food production into the everyday life of a household. The idea is straightforward: use a space near the home to grow vegetables that can become part of family meals. Gunny bags offer another way to organise a garden, alongside planting directly in the ground.
SATCD’s support focused on nutrition, food security and household resilience. Providing seeds and farm inputs gave participants practical resources for household food production, connecting the conversation about healthy eating with the work of growing food.

From seeds to everyday care
A garden takes attention beyond the first day of planting. Preparing the soil, tending seedlings and making time for watering are all part of the process. Thinking about nutrition through a garden makes these everyday choices visible: what to grow, how to care for it and how it might contribute to meals at home.
Food, nutrition and resilience
The purpose of kitchen gardening reaches beyond a single harvest. It brings together the ability to grow food, the value of a varied diet and the care needed to keep a household garden going. These are the connections at the heart of this programme.
