A period-friendly world is one where students can manage menstruation with dignity. At Loosuk Mixed Secondary School, SATCD joined the government and partners to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day with awareness, information and practical support.

Making dignity part of the conversation

The celebration took place on 28 May 2024 under the theme “Period Friendly World”. Our focus was raising awareness, sharing information, ensuring access to quality menstrual products and advocating for period-friendly toilets.

The theme asks us to think beyond products alone. A supportive environment also means being able to seek information, talk about menstrual health without embarrassment and use toilets that offer privacy and dignity. These needs belong in conversations about both education and health.

Practical support for students

SATCD donated 300 sanitary kits to help students manage their menstrual health with dignity. The donation formed part of the wider focus on access to menstrual products and the conditions in which students use them.

What a period-friendly school means

A period-friendly school is an idea rooted in everyday experience: having the products a student needs, a suitable place to use them and clear information to make sense of menstrual health. Awareness, facilities and practical support each have a part to play.

The purpose of this work is to help make menstruation less of a barrier to education and wellbeing. Menstrual Hygiene Day gives that purpose a shared focus, while reminding us why dignity should matter throughout the school year.
